My name
is Sergio Alain Barrios and I am a maximalist…..
What
is maximalism? It is a word that suits me to a tee, perhaps in a revolt
against minimalism or a vain attempt to define my style. Don’t get
me wrong, this is not to say I can not design a simple little black dress
but I am more inclined to design a little navy or chocolate dress
instead accented by one important accessory. Maximilism is an attitude
and need not be excessive. It could be a simple A line shift and an important
wide
cuff bracelet or ring, a strapless gown and a bare neck with huge diamond
ear clips. It is making the most of your look and the moment. I apply this
to every aspect of my life and it will no doubt creep its fabulous head
into every part of my world. Life is not simple so why should
your clothing be ? Opulence reigns supreme in my world so if you are looking
to make a statement, I am your man. I am influenced by many thing!
Artists, women, the world in general………. but ultimately for
me it is about the textiles I select and the details applied. I am mad
about texture and unexpected pattern mixes. I love when ugly collides with
beauty and it works. I love the minds of Tim Burton and Theodor Seuss Geisel.
Rich silk damasks in cartoonish hues and color!! Heavy silk taffetas,
wool boucles and cashmere, vintage chantilly laces mixed with stripes or
a heavy embroidery for a bit of whimsy…. we have to have fun
right? I am completely self taught and proud of this fact.
Currently I free lance in fashion and do production for all of Oscar De
La Renta’s fashion shows I like this non commital relation working for
one of my favourite designers and the top models of the world, being around
the likes of the great Andrea Leon Tally or Anna Wintour and than returning
to my unconventional life and projects. I am also a video journalist
for Indigomedia. I work for their Vive division which covers, fashion,
art, cooking, style and travel and have done several stories for them which
you can view here. I hope you will follow my progress here
and view my videos and stories. I welcome comments and inquiries
and thank you for stopping in. While I enjoy fashion and continue
to work in the industry and create, with a large inventory of my designs
from garments to jewellery and milinery I am REALLY enjoying my foray into
media and being in front of the camera for Vive Brainmedia and other projects.
I just had my first cooking segment air and completed my second cooking
segment in Hawaii which will be airing soon and you will see more of me
in the kitchen and in travel segments. To view some of this work
